Thursday, December 6, 2007 Labels: morals 13 commentsThe question is what is the biggest cause for moral destruction in America? I usually don't do this, but six people answered other. Here is a chance to specifically name the cause and explain your reasoning.
All of the other options you listed are but signs of the root problem. The reason, IMO, for the decline in morality is the denial of the true God and his Law and the affirmal of self.
In Christ we supposedly have died to ourselves and live for him. But everything today is about what I want or need - about self. And by focusing on self, we continue to put Christ to death.
"Moral Destruction" is a perception of every generation as they get older. It is an argument that is used to control, manipulate and criticize younger generations, and has been the same argument used for centuries. For some reason when people become older, their standards seem to go sky high, especially trying to explain behaviors of the youth.
"Moral Destruction" is just a cop out to justify why some people think their actions are more godly or pure...until we find out those people are generally hypocritical.
Society as a whole is afflicted with moral destruction if you want to compare our behaviors to past standards. For instance, not reading the Bible every single day, which at one time was thought terrible, would at one time be considered evil, but I don't think that makes you a bad person nowadays.
After thought...reading the Harry Potter books has been called "pure evil" equivalent to moral destruction by some(usually Laura Mallory, the psycho mom from Georgia), whereas many, many Christians don't find it all that bad, and actually entertaining.

I fault Christians for any moral decline. Christians and those that call themselves Christians.
If true believers actually lived the way the are called to do, and not be so apathetic to everything one and everything that causes controversy, we would live in a different world.
DB, the only thing I agree with is that each generation becomes less and less moral. When people are young, they're more impulsive and seek immediate gratification. Wise people learn from their mistakes and grow on them.
You're basically taking the stance that there should be no morals, as they only hinder our youths. Morals don't exist to make people feel good about themselves or elevate themselves. They exist to keep people from doing wrong, and feel bad about it when they do.
Our moral deconstruction has come from many different places, it's difficult to blame one thing. Apathy definately doesn't help.

I dont think there shouldnt be "morals"...I just dont see the world in such a negative light. True, we see douchebags with no morals all the time, but I see very good people so much more often. Its like the bad apples in the bunch, they are there and will always be there and they always stand out. I dont think society as a whole has been corrupted. Maybe those corrupted are ever more apparent with todays technology. We hear about bad things in the news more than good simply out of the nature of the news.
Perhaps I am just more optimistic about the world. Perhaps I see the greatness in our collective masses, in the US and out. I see people always ready to volunteer their time (and money) to help others less fortunate. And I don't think you have to be a Christian to have high morals, nor are Christians responsible for the "Moral Destruction." Perhaps I am just sheltered...
Laws come from morals, so...anarchy for the win? The only thing that binds us to the law is a moral foundation.
Anarchy ftw for sure...or we can just bring back stoning and end this moral destruction for good.

A bit stronger than I would have, but sometimes that is what's needed.
While some laws come from morals, other laws come from reason and logic.
Anarchy is ftw is funny, yet that style of society is a joke without morals. I would much rather prefer stoning. :)
