I think this is an accurate description of the local church's function and purpose.

"The church is a body of baptized believers in whom Christ dwells, under the discipline of the Word of God; organized for the purposes of worship, evangelism, education and fellowship; observing the ordinances and reflecting the spiritual gifts."
